1st Open Mic at the Poniat

We came back with some old heads & fresh blood. It was a nice intimate affair, with an appreciative audience.

Our madame Prezi ((Svetlana) moved us by opening the evening with poignant poems in Ukrainian  and English. Then (Stew) did a dedication session including Our Generation, a lovely poem by an upcoming star, the grade 8 student Jordan Nicols.

Jolanta regaled us with her Polish poems, and Anula the host of the Poniat took us into the break with a Polish rap.

We had deities from three duets, Jolanta partnered with both Jan the sound man, and Ralf Lowland, and a random guy called Stefan both duetted with Jan and did a  piece on his own, as did Jan.

Nils Müller read some of his own penned work in German, and Jolanta, likewise Stew, read their own pieces in English. Even the MC gave it a go with a funny story about lingo misunderstandings.b We did have a fair old mix of texts & songs.

Let me leave you with some impressions from some of the new bloods; –

Brian (our MC)

“The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the food smelled delicious. The writers club members did a good job of keeping things rolling”

Jan (the sound and guitar man)

“I liked the mixture of writers and musicians, and as far as I know this was the first event of it’s kind in this city. Great to have all that stuff even in different languages. Could have been a little more musicians, though”.

Jolanta (our Polish poetess)

“… was a nice experience to get on the stage, especially the song we interpreted, with Jan, got very good feedback”
